So I originally spent 2.14 in cash BUT one of my coupons didn't ring up and I didn't notice it until I got my recipe so the cashier gave me 4.00 back in CASH!!

Dark Chocolate and Diet Coke...does it get much better? I broke it into 2 transactions and I got a $5/30 coupon from the "magic coupon machine" that helped my savings. If you live in Central Ohio I have seen several new ones recently-let me know if you want the scope on where they are :) If you have never seen them before they are normally right when you walk in the door, you just scan your CVS card and coupons come out just for you. Since they are CVS coupons you can use them with a manufactures coupon to maximize savings.

Saving Without Using Coupons!

Yes, you really can save money without using coupons! Don’t get me wrong, coupons do help you save BIG time at the store BUT I know many of you just don’t have time to clip and keep them organized! Here are a few ways you can save without using coupons.

Make a List-Don’t just go to the store to pick up the things you think you need, make a list and stick to it! The grocery store does a great job of making people want to impulse buy. If you know what you are there for and stick with the list you brought you will save money and time, and I know for a lot of you time is money!

Use Cash-I have said this before but I am a firm believer in using cash for purchases. If you only have $60 dollars with you to spend on groceries you will more than likely only buy the things you really need.

Study your Store Ad-Just by knowing what is on sale at the store each week and writing your grocery list around that will help you save money. I was at Kroger last week and half gallons of milk were $1 and gallons where 2.89! I stood there and watched three people grab gallon containers of milk, right there they could have saved .89 just by getting 2 half gallons. I know .89 doesn’t sound like much but it adds up! Another example, Tyson chicken may be on sale for 1.99lb and the store brand may be 2.99lb, most people would grab the store brand assuming it is cheaper but not always!

If You Find a Good Deal Stock Up!- Just because something is on sale doesn’t mean it is a good deal. But generally if something is 50% or more off and it is an item you use regularly, buy several (as your budget allows!). The goal is to have enough to last you until the next sale rolls around. Typically sales rotate around every 6 weeks or so. For example if I find chicken for less than 1.79lb I will buy several packs and then wait for the next sale.

Look for Markdowns-Stores normally have a section where they keep markdown or quick sale items. Know where that spot is and check it every time you shop. This is how I have scored some great deals on meat.

Dinner Match Ups

Ok..so this isn't really a dinner BUT I just had to share this recipe because I thought it sounded soooo good! You can get a great deal on Strawberries this week at Aldi(.99) and Kroger(1.50).
Hip2Save's Strawberry Bread
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour (I used 3/4 cup wheat & 3/4 cup white)
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup yogurt (I used strawberry)
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
2 eggs, beaten
DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter one loaf pan.Slice strawberries, and place in medium-sized bowl. Sprinkle lightly with sugar, and set aside while preparing bread mixture.Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt and baking soda in large bowl and mix well.Mash strawberries with your fingers or a fork. Blend oil, yogurt, vanilla extract and eggs into strawberries. Add strawberry mixture to flour mixture, blending until dry ingredients are just moistened.Place batter into the loaf pan.Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes. Turn loaf out, and cool completely.

Nature Valley Granola Bar Deal. .02 a Box at Meijer!!!(Updated!)

If you are going to Meijer here is how to get the best deal. Remember Meijer will only double 2 of the same coupon(the rest will just be face value) and you can only get one catalina per transaction for this deal.

Buy 3 Nature Valley Bars and 2 Curves Bars($2.00each)
Use( 2) .60 Printables and (1 ).50 coupons from a recent insert for the Nature Valley, then (2) .75 Printables for the Curves bars(from my coupon printer or here)
So your total after coupons would be $3.60 but you would get a catalina for $3.50 off your next shopping bill. So basically you got 5 boxes of granola bars for .10!

If your Meijer only doubles to up to .50 this would still be a good deal! Less then .50 a box!

Update! I heard that it is also working with the Chex Bars and Fiber One Bars. So you could do a combination of any and get a great deal! Actually you could get them FREE if you got 2 boxes of Nature Valley, 2 boxes of Curves and 1 box of Chex Bars! Use (2) .60 Nature Valley coupons, (2) .75 Curves Bar coupons and (1) .60 Chex coupon. I got some great unexpected deals at Kroger! I got some really good coupons in the mail from Kroger yesterday and a few matched up with some sale items this week! Here are the highlights from Kroger. Free-toilet paper(3), toothbrushes(4), Soap, Sargento Finisher, Tonys Pizza, Yo Plus, Cheerios. I wasn't going to go to Meijer but I just tried the New Kashi TLC bars and really like them so I used me $2 coupons and got 3 boxes for .50 each. I ran into some free black beans and taco seasoning.

I won't bore you with a picture but I also went to Aldi and got some produce and flour. Spent just over $5.

So I spent around $22 and got more then we needed for the week.
