Maximize Your Coupon Savings

There is some strategy when it comes to saving the most money with coupons.

1.Don't use your coupon until that item goes on sale!

You will really maximize your savings if you wait until that product you have a coupon for goes on sale. Example: .50 coupon for Granola Bars. Non Sale price 3.50. So if you just buy the Granola Bars at the normal price you will pay 2.50(if you get double coupons!) but if you wait for a sale you will likely get the same box for 1.00-1.50. A savings of 1-1.50.

2. Know your stores coupon policy

Every store has different coupon policies. It is very important to know what $ amount of coupons are doubled and how many identical coupons you can use. Example: Meijer in Central Ohio will only double 2 identical coupons per transactions. If there is a really good deal and I have more then 2 of the same coupon to use, I will break up my order into multiple transactions(I normally only do 2 if there are people behind me or go to the self check out)

3. Be prepared before you get to the checkout!

Make sure to have all the coupons you are going to use ready before you get to the checkout. You don't want to be digging around for a coupon with the cashier and the person behind glaring in your direction. I will stop in a low traffic area to make sure I have everything on my list and separate all the coupons I am using.

It's Craft Time!

I really enjoy doing crafts but I haven't done any recently. When I got my All You Magazine a few weeks ago there was a really cute flower vase that had layered jelly beans in it. I thought I would recreate it.

Here is what I used

Even the Coach Makes Mistakes!

So I went to Kroger today for what I was hoping would be a quick trip. There were only a few things I wanted to get so I ran through the store and got to the Pillsbury Refrigerated section and NOTHING was marked on sale...I was so confused...I just stood there.....I thought they had advertised buy 4 get them for $1 each but there was no signage. Since I was in a hurry I just grabbed 4 that I thought were on sale and headed to the check out. They rang up for $1.25 each and I thought maybe I had it wrong and they were 4 for $5. I was tired and hungry(another no no when you got shopping!) so I just left and figured I would double check it later. So I get home and look at my ad and figured out they were suppose to be $1 each! OH MAN...now I have to drag myself and my rolls(Pillsbury rolls that is!) back to Kroger to get me some $$ back. So here is my lesson(s) learned:

Always shop with your ad in hand!!!! and

If you think something didn't ring up right, check it BEFORE you leave the store.

Dinner Match Up:Chili

I was staring at some ground beef yesterday wondering what in the world I was going to do with it! I normally don't plan out our meals very far in advance so staring at meat and hoping something comes to mind happens pretty often. After I went downstairs to my stockpile I realized I had everything I needed to make chili! Here is what you need:

1lb or so of ground beef(1.77lb at Kroger this week!)
Chili Seasoning
3 8oz cans of Tomatoes Sauce(.39 at Walgreens or buy 13 and send in for a $5 rebate)
2 14oz cans of crushed tomatoes
1 Can of Beans(I used black)
2 Potatoes(I peeled mine but you don't have to)(1.99 for a BIG bag at Aldi)
1 Green Pepper(1.99 for pack of 3 at Aldi)
1 Bag or Can of Corn(I only used 1/2 the bag)

Brown the meat, drain grease. Add Tomatoes,Sauce and Seasoning. Stir Well. Add Potatoes and beans then bring pot to a simmer-let cook 20 mins. Then add the corn and diced green pepper-cook another 10-15mins or until potatoes are done.


It makes a HUGE pot and is very filling!

Save with Rewards Programs

One way I save on products I love (like Diet Coke!) is by participating in their Rewards Program. It is pretty easy, you collect the special codes off the package, enter them on their site and save up until you have enough points to "cash in". My favorite reward on My Coke Rewards is a $1 coupon for every 35 pts you earn, and since each 12pk is worth 10pts it really doesn't take long to earn that many. I will save my $1 coupons until I see Coke on sale for around $2.50. Every reward program is a little different but they are well worth checking out.

Weight Watchers also has a rewards program that is worth checking out if you buy a lot of these products.

Here are the Highlights! FREE Stuff-Tyson Anytizers, Ortega Taco Seasoning, JennyO Turkey Sausage and Patties, Dinty Moore and Sierra Mist. I also stocked up on the Ziploc Storage Bags, this is the best deal on sandwich bags I have seen and since we both pack our lunch I couldn't resist :) I paid around .35 a box after coupons!

You've gotta love the Mega 10 Events at Kroger! I actually made a profit on the Colgate Toothpaste and Toothbrushes as well as the Quaker Rice Cakes. Did you know that the regular price of Breyers Ice Cream is 5.89? It is-but with the sale and coupon I got them for 1.88 each.
